Chapter 6 Pg 203,206, and 211

When I read Colorizing the Cosmos  by Bob Berman i was amazed and i could not believe what I was reading. I had always thought that planets were different colors and i was kinda disappointed to realize that it was all just digital imaging. I felt in a way betrayed and lied to, they are so good at making you believe something is real when in reality it is fake. I just do not understand how easily we are fooled and it makes me think about how much we do not know about. I personally believe that art can be anything you see. A sunset or sunrise can be art and that is something real. A child’s masterpiece is something i consider art. And  if art makes us feel certain emotions i believe that it has to do with how our mind works. For example we are taught that certain colors represent certain emotion such as blue: sad. So i believe that the way we were taught to look at things affects how we see different art. And in my mind anything is art. I believe that we can relate certain movies to our real life that is why we cry at movies or like them. Or a movie can make you think that something is horrible for happening to that person imagine if it happened to me and that is another place where we can get our emotions.

Chapter 5 pg 170,174,178

Some of this articles were fasinating and others were kinda lame. I really enjoyed the reality show one. Even though reality shows are mostly unreal. I find reality shows as a way of entertainment and not really a real way to look at life. Some reality shows are dumb but others way even be in some what a way real. I do not believe that cartoons have anything sexual or disturbing about them. I believe that older people are the ones that get perverted things from the show because they have a perverted mind and they tend to form sexual things that in reality a child sees nothing wrong with. Humans overanalyze cartoons and make beging to see sexual images because there searching for them. Children in reality do not see anything sexual in cartoons because there mind is pure and innocent and older people are the ones catching the so called sexual things in cartoons. I like the article in art. I believe art can be seen everywhere, no matter where you turn art can be found. Art can be found in nature such as a sunset or sunrise. Art can even be found in music and poems. Lyrics that add imagery can help paint a picture in your mind and help your brain create art. Art is a beautiful thing and if you look at any object in a specific way it can be art.

Chapter 5

I found both articles very fasinating and interesting.  It amazing me how humans can act on things only on viewing images. For example how hitler got people to join him just by a picture and how Uncle Sam gets people just by his picture. It is very fasinating but it is also very scary that were easily pulled to do something just by an image. It scares me that we can easily be fooled that something can be right just by a picture such as was hitler did. He convinced millions of people that some thing that was horible was right. I think that this is still used now a day for example the other day i was driving and i was really hungry and i saw a guy holding a sign saying mountain mikes buffet 11 am to 2 pm. that image of the pizza made me turn around and stop at mountain mike just to get some pizza. something hapens when it comes to shoping for example if theres a sign that says 50% off i am interested and i make myself believe that i need to go shopping just because it is cheaper. I just found this two articles very interesting and i liked them both.

Chapter 4

what really grapped my attention was the topic about dreams. I believe dreams are a very fasinating thing and its something that really amuses me. In my psych class we talked about why we dream there is no clear answer but there are alot of interesting therories that i learned. For example, there is a theory that dreams are nothing but reminders of event that happened on your day. They really do not signify anything they are just event  that once happened. I do not believe this theory because i have dreamed about very crazy situations. Another theory is that dreams are symbols of differernts thing. Well in any way i believe dreams are interesting and it would be really amazing if we were to find out why one dreams. Or even if dreams really do not mean anything and we as humans interpret them as so many different thing. Anyways i believe that so many things in life are unanswered and we may never be able to answer them. They are forever a mystery

freewrite experience

I like the way we freewrite on the articles. I feel like i can freely express my self on what i read. I like that you do not have to think questions to answer you can just write whatever is on your mind. i like being able to express my self, but at times it can be kinda of difficult. Its difficult because you cannot see what your writing and there for you do not know whether you are spelling things right. But i still enjoy the experience.

chapter 3 page 97,100,107 freewrite

I believe that violence in video games or even the media afects the way our children behave now a days. What children learn through media affects the way they behave in everyday life. For example my little cousin is a big killing video game fan and because of what he is exposed to everyday he tends to be more violent than my other cousins. He is the kind of cousin that bites, pinches, punches, and messes with all the other children. I believe that if violence in the media was less than criminals now a days would be less also . The media puts out such violent games because that is what the audience wants. But is that healthy for our children, i think it a good thing that rating are put on video games now it is the responsibility of the parents to make sure that the games there buying for there children is appropriate. I also agree with the logo artice, a name is nothing with out the logo. For example when you think of nike you think of the swoosh sign. I believe that logos is what makes the name. if there were no logos on clothes the clothes would not be worth as much as a clothes with a well known logo. It is kind of odd that society works that way but humans always seem to crave something that everyone wants but cant afford, or is just a little more expensive than normal logos.

Chapter 3

it is fasinating how powerful even the simplest of images can be. like the nike swoosh or even the fish symbolizing
God. i found it really amzing how a symbol can be recoganized by eberyone world wide and can fully be understand and it is only a symbol. being able to undrstand this syumbols indicates the power of the image to communicate and this power has important implications in commerce, language, and even religion. I also found it fasinating how much webcameras comoopletely change our sense of the visula surrounde and our relationship to it. i also found it interesting how web cameras allow us to see the world remotely and also allow us to participate in and share adventures such as space exploration previously availabe to only athe very few. i9 agree when it says that violence in video games and TV affects the children or anyone watching. I have seen this in real life my little cousins that play violent video games act in a more violent matter. I also liked when Robin Landa says that a powerful visual strategy like branding creates another level of influence beyonnd the impact of single images, and suggests a new way in which the visuola surround becomes a compelling force in our lives.

I found this blog to be very weird, i did not feel comfortable not being able to see. I felt like all the things i was writing were mispelled or did not make any sense. I keep looking up at the screen but i was unable to see anything. This really frustrated me, i began to double think on wether i had spelled the words write or if i was just writing a whole bunch of  letters. I was unsecure and i was not confident on the things i was writing i just keep writing and writing. But the whole time i was writing i was thinking if i had spelled everything right. Or if people were going to be reading my blog and say what the heck is she talking about. I just keep writing and writing and unable to see what i was writing made the time go so slow and i was unsure of what i was writing.

The World of the Image, Chapter 2

The World of the Image by Trudy Smoke and Alan Robbins, talks about how we view other humans, and what we consider to be beautiful along with the privileges that beautiful people receive.

What does the text have to do with you, personally, and with your life (past, present, or future)?

Susan Bordo really opened my eyes to the reality of the world. Has children you automatically learn that being over weight is not good, I work at an after school program and notice that thiner children do not really enjoy playing with the bigger ones. Bordo states ” Children in this culture grow up knowing that being fat is one of the worst things one can be.” I found the expirement that was made about “rank drawing of children with various physical handicaps” very interesting. The fact that children felt that being fat was the greatest disapproval was eye opening to me, this states that children consider fat to be greater than other physical apperances.

How much does the text agree or dash with your view of the world, and what you consider right and wrong?

I agree with some of Daniel Goleman’s ideas, but i disagree on his idea that looks is all you need to prosper in life. I agree with him stating that “…physical attractiveness, in males as well as females, carries with it an impressive array of social and psychological benefits- from getting more attention from teachers in childhood, to earning more money in adulthood.” It is true that people who are believed do have more advantanges because of their looks, but i believe that their looks alone is not enough for them when it comes to getting a good job. Maybe when they are in school there looks might help them out a little, but they would still have to work hard to earn good grades. Good looks get you popularity, but they do not get you good grades. Good grades come from hard work and paying attention in class. I also believe this is the same with getting a job, having good looks would help you to get a good job but you would also need the neccesary education to get the job. Your looks alone will not get you the job you need the help of a good education. On the other hand, if a beautiful girl and an ugly girl were to go for an interview for the same jobs and both had the exact same qualifications, the chances of the beautiful girl receiving the job are higher. She has higher chances of  getting the job, because she is considered beautiful. I also agree with Susan Bordo and her ideas about being thin. It is true that in our community we are taught that “fat is the devil, and we are continually beating him…”. The repeated reminder of the media that skinner is better has affected a great part of my life. I can never see myself as being skinny, when ever i see myself in the mirror i see myself as being overweight. I believe that this is the medias fault, they focus beauty on weight and make younger girls believe that in order to be beautiful you must be skinny.

Use several quotes as examples of how it agrees with and support how you think?

I agree with the fact that they taught us to “love a women’s pelvis, her hipbones jutting out through a bias-cut grown…”. This shows how much we are forced to think that being super skinny is good and being normal is fat. i also agree with the fact that men look more eat looks than women, ” …for men, the physical attractiveness of a partner is significantly more important than it is for women…”. Men tend to care about the physical part of the women first before they worry about her personality.

How did you learn, and how much were your views and opinions challenged by the text?

I learned that ” The beauty of the female face, it appears, is mathematically quantifiable”. I found this very interesting that math related to beauty. It is fasinating to me that men are unaware the the reason they are attracted to the “beautiful” women has to do with the poportions of her face. I was also fasinated by the fact that children learn at a really young age that fact is not attractive. I think that if children are learning this something is wrong with our system. I believe children should learn that humans come in different shapes and sizes and just because some one is bigger than someone else that does not make that child ugly. Children should not even have to be worrying about weight at such a young age, they should just enjoy there carefree life.
